Hülya Adak received her PhD and MA in Comparative Literature from the University of Chicago. After joining Sabancı University in 2001, she taught courses in cultural studies, gender and sexuality studies, European and Turkish literature and trauma and memory studies. Adak has been working as Visiting Professor and Alexander von Humboldt Experienced Research Fellow at the Freie Universitaet Berlin's Institute for Turcology since 2012. Adak has also served as Visiting Professor at the University of Potsdam and Carleton University. As SU Gender Director, she is currently working with the Freie Universitaet Berlin's Margherita von Brentano Center for Gender Studies on a close collaboration on gender studies in Turkey and Germany. Adak has worked to institutionalize Sabancı University's Purple Certificate Program for high school teachers since 2006 and continues to work on the Sexual Harassment Policy at Sabancı University. She has also launched a new education program in collaboration with EDU on gender, diversity and critical thinking for the corporate sector. Adak's research interests include gender and women's studies, sexuality, aesthetics and politics, European, Ottoman and Turkish literature, European and Turkish modern drama and film and trauma studies. Güler Alışık obtained her bachelor’ degree in Law from Ankara University in 1987. In 2016, she completed her graduate studies in International Trade at Ankara University. Between 1988 and 1995, she worked for the Koç Group as an associate lawyer, and from 1995 to 1998, she worked for the HSK company as a legal counsel. Between 1998 and 2000, she worked as a legal counsel at the Güreli accounting and international audit company. From 2000 to 2005, she worked as the vice chief legal counsel at Bayındır Holding, and from 2005 to 2011, as the chief legal counsel at Avivasa. From 2018, she worked as a legal counsel at Yeditepe University. Alışık is the Chief Legal Officer in Sabancı University since January 2022.
He received his BA in International Relations (1998) from İstanbul University, Faculty of Political Sciences and his master's degrees in European Law from Marmara University European Union Institute and in Information Studies from Aberystwyth University in Wales. He joined Sabanci University in 2005. After several duties in the Information Center, he has been appointed as Director in May 2013. He has also been acting as a board member of Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS).
He received his high school diploma at Robert College, B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at Boğaziçi University. After completing M.Sc. at Syracuse University NY, he worked for two years as a consultant for nuclear power plants at Nutech Inc. San Jose CA. He continued to work as an engineer for two more years at Tekser Inc in Istanbul. His sales and marketing career started after joining IBM Turkey in 1983, as an IT sales representative. He held various management positions and served as a board member at I-BIMSA. Between 1995-1999, he was the manager of IBM Global Services Institute in Brussels. He has ‘Advanced Certificate in Marketing Management’ certificate from Chartered Institute of Marketing of UK. He left IBM in 2005 after serving six years as Global Services Manager, to establish his own training and consulting company. Between 2007-2010, he was the founding Secretary General of Özyeğin University. He is a collector of Ottoman bonds and postcards, enjoys travelling. He was appointed as the Secretary General of Sakıp Sabancı Museum in October 2010. Bankacı is the General Manager of Inovent since August 2019.
Mr. Bayırlı received his B.S.c degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, his master’s degree in Information and Telecommunication Systems from the John Hopkins University and MBA from Koç University. He had worked in textile industry between the years 2003 and 2011. He also took various management responsibilities in Koç University Facilities Management from 2012 to 2017. In addition, he has managed various revenue generated projects. Mr. Bayırlı joined Sabancı University as the Director of Business Development Unit in December 2017 and he is the Director of Institutional Partnerships and Alumni Relations Unit since February 2021.
Ms. Mutlu Bozkurt Besimzade received her B.A. degree in Business Administration from Boğaziçi University in 1992 and her Executive MBA degree from Istanbul Bilgi University in 2000. She started her career in Borusan Otomotiv as Sales Executive. From 1994 to 1997 she worked as Brand Manager at Wella Türkimya. She assumed the Business Unit Manager, Consumer & OTC Products position at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals between 1997 and 2000. She moved her career to Türknet to take the Deputy General Manager responsible for Marketing and Product Development position until 2001. From 2002 to 2008 she worked as Marketing Manager for Groupe SEB, a producer of small domestic appliances. Between 2009 and 2012, she assumed Industrial Marketing and Sales Director role at Unmaş, a member of Doruk Group. Within the same Group, she held the position of Deputy General Manager at Komşu Fırın and General Manager at Zeelandia Doruk in following years. She worked for Nurus as Head of Marketing and Business Development and then assumed the Marketing Director role at Özsüt until 2017. In the same year, she established a startup company, Beşiktepe Zeytincilik, and created her own brand. She joined Sabancı University as Marketing and Institutional Communications Director in November 2019.
Abdullah Daşcı obtained B.Sc. and M.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering from Bilkent University in 1993 and 1995, respectively and Ph.D. in Management from McGill University in 2001. Prior to Sabanci University, he worked at York University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and University of Alberta. His research interests include location theory, supply chain management, and business analytics. His work has appeared in leading international journals such as Operations Research, Production and Operations Management, IIE Transactions, and Journal of Regional Science. He has extensive teaching experience on various operations management and quantitative method topics at undergraduate, graduate, MBA, and Executive MBA levels. He has been working as a faculty member at Sabancı University School of Management since 2013.
Bora Şekip Güray received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Nuclear Engineering from Hacettepe University (1997 and 2001) and earned qualification in his Ph.D. studies in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University. He worked as Research Assistant in Hacettepe University between 1997 and 1998. From 1998 to 2001, he worked as Project Engineer and Chief Engineer in the Turkish Electricity Generation and Transmission Co.. Mr. Güray served as Expert, Advisor to the Director General of Energy Affairs, Head of Division and Acting Head of Department in the General Directorate of Energy Affairs of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources from 2001 to 2011. Between 2011 and 2018, he worked as Energy Group Manager in Sabanci Holding. Bora Şekip Güray participated in various projects including energy planning and energy market operations, energy policy development and implementation, energy sector investments and asset management and worked in regional and international projects in the energy field. Güray joined Sabanci University as the Director of Research at IICEC in 2018 and has contributed to the increase of IICEC’s research base and public recognition as well as the development of the energy sector itself with activities on the implementation and presentation of various research reports, development of different research projects and enhancing engagement with public-industry-academia stakeholders. Mr. Güray is the Director of IICEC since December 2020.
Talat Durgut obtained his bachelor’s degree (1997) and master’s degree (2000) in Mechanical Engineering from Yıldız Technical University. He started his PhD in Mechanical Engineering Energy program at the same university. He started his career in 1996 as a Site Engineer. In 1998, he started to work for Kale Aero Company as Process Development and Manufacturing Engineer in charge of domestic and international projects, and later on, as 6 Sigma Black Belt, Quality Control Leader, and Aerospace Projects Manager. Moving to GE Aviation in 2007 to work as Director of Advanced Manufacturing, Durgut led the team that developed and industrialized new technologies for global manufacturing facilities of aircraft engine parts. From 2016 to 2021, he worked for GE Renewable Energy as Global Director of Advanced Manufacturing and Brilliant Factory, and Global Director of Cost Engineering, respectively. From 2021, Talat Durgut worked as Global Director of Manufacturing Systems at GE Renewable Energy / LM Wind Power, where he built short- and long-term manufacturing strategies for wind turbine blades and led the development and implementation of new manufacturing technologies via artificial intelligence methods. Mr. Durgut is the Director of SUATT since January 2022.
His bachelor' s degree is in Mechanical Engineering, from the Yıldız Technical University, and his master' s degree is in Engineering Management from the Marmara University. 2000 - 2001 worked as a Service Engineer at Temsa / Komatsu Construction Machinery, 2002 - 2004 worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Foster Wheeler Bimaş, 2004 - 2011 worked as a Purchasing Specialist and later as an Internal Auditor at Brisa Bridgestone Sabancı Tyre A.Ş. 2011 March started his job at the Sabancı University.
Jacqueline Einer received her BA in Adult Education and her MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University of Technology, Sydney. She worked as an English language instructor at Istanbul Technical University for 9 years before joining the School of Languages at Sabanci University in 2000. Ms Einer worked as an instructor until 2009 when she took on the role of Program Coordinator. She was appointed Director of the School of Languages in September, 2012. Ms Einer was also one of the writers and editors of the course book series Beyond the Boundaries: English in an Academic Environment, which is the main course book series in use in the School of Languages.
He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Sabancı University, in Social and Political Sciences, and in History respectively. In 2014, he received his PhD in Middle Eastern Studies from Leiden University in the Netherlands and his dissertation is published as a book titled The Ottoman Crisis in Western Anatolia / Turkey’s Belle Époque and the Transition to a Modern Nation State by I.B. Tauris in 2016. He worked at Leiden University between 2009 – 2016 in the School of Middle Eastern Studies, the International Studies and the International Honours College at the Hague (LUC). He thought graduate and undergraduate level courses in the fields of history, area studies, political science and philosophy. Since 2016, he has been a faculty member in Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. His research covers topics such as Economic and social history of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey, European-Ottoman encounters and diplomacy, personal histories and ego-documents of the Young Turks, history of migrations in the Ottoman Empire, history of socialisms and nationalisms in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey, history of port-towns and port-cities in the Eastern Mediterranean, digital humanities and world history. He has done consultancy work for international organizations including UNESCO and The Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation (IHJR). He has been a member of Middle East Studies Association (MESA), and The Society for Turkic, Ottoman and Turkish Studies (GTOT) while currently fulfilling his duty as the Director of Foundations Development at Sabancı University.
Fuat Keyman is Director of Istanbul Policy Center and Professor of International Relations at Sabancı University. Keyman is a leading Turkish political scientist and an expert on democratization, globalization, international relations, Turkey – EU relations, Turkish foreign policy, and civil society development. He is a member of the Science Academy. He has worked as a member on the Council of Wise People as part of the Peace Process to the Kurdish issue. He also serves on advisory and editorial boards for a number of respected international and national organizations as well as for academic journals. Prior to joining Sabancı University, Keyman taught in the Department of International Relations at Koç University between 2002 and 2010 and in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Bilkent University between 1994 and 2002. He was also Visiting Professor at Carleton University in the summer of 1997. Keyman holds several post-doctoral fellowships from Wellesley College and Harvard University. He has received numerous prestigious grants from the EU Framework Programme and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. Furthermore, Keyman has been the research director for various projects such as Peter Berger and Samuel Huntington’s Many Globalizations, CIVICUS, and Mapping Civil Society in Turkey. Keyman has conducted the first extensive research project and written copiously on the political and social trends in Turkey, urban transformation, and living together in Anatolian cities. He is the author and editor of more than twenty books, including Istanbul: Living with Difference in a Global City (with Nora Fisher-Onar and Susan C. Prof. Dr. Ali Koşar İstanbul’da doğdu. Orta ve lise öğrenimini İstanbul Erkek Lisesi’nde almıştır. Boğaziçi Üniversitesi, Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü’nden lisans derecesini aldıktan sonra Rensselear Polytechnic Institute Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü’nde yüksek lisans ve doktora derecelerini 2003 ve 2006 yıllarında almıştır. Yeni nesil mikro akışkan sistemler konusunda dünya çapında öncü araştırmacılardan biridir. Araştırma alanları, mikro/nano ölçek ısı transferi, kaynama ısı transferi, mikro akışkan sistemler ve kavitasyonu içeren bir yelpazeyi kapsamaktadır. Alanındaki en prestijli dergilerde basılmış yüzü aşkın dergi makalesi olup; bu makalelere 2000’in üzerinde atıf yapılmıştır. Prof. Dr. Ali Koşar halen Sabancı Üniversitesi, Mühendislik ve Doğa Bilimleri Fakültesi, Mekatronik Programı’nda öğretim üyesi ve Sabancı Üniversitesi Nanotanı İçin İşlevsel Yüzeyler ve Arayüzeyler Mükemmeliyet Merkezi’nde Eş-Direktör olarak çalışmaktadır.
Dr. Evirgen holds BSc degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics (double major) and MBA degree from Bosphorous University, Istanbul, Turkey and PhD degree in marketing and international business from Michigan State University (MSU), Michigan, USA. He was the General Manager and Board Member at Bilesim International Research and Consultancy Inc. in Turkey (now part of GfK Inc. and Nielsen Medya Inc. companies) between the years 1994-2002, and coordinated more than 1,000 research projects for over 100 firms in Turkey, Caucasia and Central Asia through subsidiary companies formed. During 2003-2004, he was a lecturer at Koc University and Sabancı University and the Director of the professional Retailing Training and Consultancy Program at Sabanci University. Since 2004, he has been the Executive Director of the Executive Development Unit (EDU, www.edu.sabanciuniv.edu) at Sabanci University. Dr. Evirgen also continues to teach in professional exec ed programs offered by EDU and in the Executive MBA , MBA and MA in Brand Practice programs at Sabancı University.
Born in İstanbul, Dr. Ölçer studied Ethnology, ancient history and history of art at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany. During these years she worked intensively at the collections of the University (Departments for Antiquity and Ethnology ) and later at the Museum for Ethnology in Munich. In 1972 she began working as curator at the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art. In 1975 and 1978 she worked as guest curator at the Museum for Ethnology in Vienna and at the Museum for Islamic Art in Berlin. In 1978 she was appointed as director of the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art in Istanbul. Ms. Ölçer has participated at many excavations, particularly at the excavations in Karatepe / Adana in South Anatolia; in Selçikler / Uşak in Western Anatolia during the campaigns between 1974 - 1979. She is the author of many documentary films on traditional handicrafts made for the Film Centre of The Vienna University (Institut für den wissenschaftlichen Film) and for the Scientific Film Institute in Göttingen / Germany. She participated and directed research projects such as the settlement of the nomadic tribes Beritan and Alikan in Eastern Anatolia 1979; documentation of traditional crafts and craftsmen in the neighbourhood of Istanbul (1982 - 1984). 1976 - 1984 she lectured at the Yıldız Technical University, Istanbul (City Planning and Restoration Department ) for the post-graduate programmes. She is the organiser and co-operator of many international exhibitions. In 2003 she retired from the Turkish and Islamic Art after 25 years of directorship and took over the presidency at the newly founded Sakıp Sabancı Museum. Dr. Ölçer has published many books, catalogues, and articles on carpets and kilims, the art of metalworking, museology and cultural changes. She is member of many international institutions (National Committee of Turkish ICOM; Turkish National Comittee of Unesco; Board member of ICAMT; Corresponding member of German Archaeological Institute; Board member of the National Foundation Preservation of Historical Monuments and Environment: TAÇ; board member of The American Research Institute in Turkey ARIT, advisory board member both of the Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts and Mimar Sinan University, Department of Fine Arts) related to museology and history of art. She is the recipient of the "Museologist of the year" award from the Turkish Ministery of Culture, of the "Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres" award from the French Ministry of Culture, the "Bundesverdienstkreuz" order from the President of Federal Germany, "Kryzem Kawalerskim?" order from the President of The Republic of Poland, and the order of "Cavalieri di Omri" from the Italian President. In 2003 she received the honorary doctorate title (Dr. h. c) from the University of Bern, Switzerland for her great contribution to the understanding of different cultures between nations.
Prof. Dr. Alpay Filiztekin is a faculty member of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He received his B.A. in Economics from Boğaziçi University in 1989 and his PhD in Economics from Boston College in 1994. He was a faculty member at Koç University between 1994-2000, at Sabancı University between 2000-2016, at Özyeğin University between 2016-2019. Prof. Filiztekin was also the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of Sabancı University between 2013-2016. He was the Director of the Graduate School of Business and the Dean of the Faculty of Business at Özyeğin University.
She received her B.Sc. degree from Bosphorus Univesity in Mechanical Engineering in 1996 and MBA degree from Bilgi University in 2009. From 1997 to 2007, she worked as a Manager at Temsa Global A.Ş. in Automotive Marketing Department and assumed responsibilities in training, market research, product management, advertising and PR areas.. She assumed Marketing and Institutional Communications Director position in June 2010. She was appointed as Acting General Secretary of Sakıp Sabancı Museum as of 03 August 2019. Ms. Özkul has started to assume the General Secretary of Museum position as of 01 October 2019.
Ms. Huriye Okumuşoğlu Pandul received her B.S. degree in Political Science and Public Administration from Middle East Technical University. Ms. Pandul worked as Experienced Senior in PWC from 2000 to 2004. Between 2004 and 2009, she worked as Budgeting and Consolidation Manager in Sabancı Holding. From 2009 to 2013, she worked as Group Planning and Controlling Manager in Enerjisa. Ms. Pandul has worked as Finance Director in Enerjisa Perakende Satış A.Ş between 2013 and 2019. Pandul is the Chief Financial Officer in Sabancı University since April 2019.
She received her BA degree in English Language Teaching (1985) and her MA degree in Foreign Language Education (1989) from Uludag University. She had another MA degree in Teaching and Learning of English as a Foreign Language from the University of Reading in 1992. She obtained her Doctorate (PhD) in Teaching and Learning of English as a Foreign Language from the University of Reading in 1995. Saka, who worked in The University of Reading (England) from 1990 to 1996, performed both academic and administrative duties in Uludag University until 2005: Head of English Language Teaching Department between 1998-2001; Vice-Director of School of Foreign Languages between 2003-2005; Academic Coordinator of English Language Teaching Department in Bursa, Open Education Faculty at Anadolu University between 2001-2005. She acted as a chairperson, a member and a coordinator in the various academic and administrative boards and committes. She has taught in the undergraduate and MA programs, and supervised MA theses. Her main interest areas: Foreign Language Education, Learner-Centered Education, Educational Psychology, Educational Administration, Research Methedology. In national and international venues, she presented papers, gave publications and involved in the projects in her interest areas. She has been a member of various organizations: International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL), Teachers of English to Speakers of Other languages (TESOL), English Language Association (ELEA), English Language Association (ELEA), TESOL Greece. She is the Director of Student Resources, as of June 2005.
Işık Tüzün received her B.A. degree in International Relations from Koç University in 2004 and her M.A. degree in the Development Studies (major) and Poverty Studies (minor) from International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University Rotterdam. After working in the History Foundation for a while, she joined ERI team. In this period, she mostly focused on children’s rights, gender equality, freedom of religion and belief, etc. In 2013, she was selected as Marshall Memorial Fellow. In 2015, she took part in the Board of Management of the Network of Education Policy Centers. Between 2015 and 2017, she was one of the SMEs gathered, by the Council of Europe, to evaluate the appliance of ‘Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights State’ in the member countries. Between January 2017 and August 2019, she worked as a freelance consultant. In this period, she wrote reports about gender equality and education rights for refugee children. She also took active roles in certain projects including “Fark Yaratan Sınıflar” by Ashoka, “Monitoring Gender Equality” by Association for Monitoring Gender Equality and “Participative and Peaceful Classrooms” by BBOM. Tüzün had again joined ERI team in September 2019 as the Director of Education Reform Initiative.
She graduated from İzmir American Collegiate Institute in 1974 and subsequently received her Chemical Engineering degree from Ege University, Faculty of Engineering in 1978. She continued her studies at University College London, UK, leading to Ph.D. degree in Biochemical Engineering in 1981. She received her Associate Professorship in "Bioengineering" in 1985 and became a Professor at Ege University in 1992. She is the founding head of the Bioengineering Department at Ege University and was the head of Department between 2000-2017. She is a pioneer in the field in Turkey and is the holder of 1989 Turkish Scientific and Technological Council Incentive award in Bioengineering. Throughout her 35 years at Ege University, she has had numerous administrative duties at different levels and has represented the University at national, regional and International platforms. She was the Director of Ege University Technology Transfer Office (EBILTEM-TTO) between 1998-2017. She currently also holds the positions of vice president of Administrative Board of Ege Technopark, vice president of USIMP Executive Board, Coordinator of EBIC-Ege (Enterprise Europe Network). She is also a member of EPO Academy Advisory Board (European Patent Office) and represents Turkey on ATTP Board (Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals), AUTM International Committee (Association of University Technology Managers), ASTP- NAAC (Association of Science and Technology Professionals National Associations Advisory Committee) and EuKTS Board (European Knowledge Transfer Society). She has research and teaching experience in the fields of scale-up, mass and momentum transfer in bioreactors, re-utilization of agro-industrial waste through bio-industries and R&D&I management and support. She is a referee in numerous scientific journals. Her skills and expertise as a technology Transfer professional are internationally recognised, endorsed through her RTTP Certificate (Registered Technology Transfer Professional) and EuKTS Grandfather Certificate. She has approximately 200 publications (15 research articles on R&D&I management and support) with 6 books and 23 book chapters (13 on R&D&I management and support), numerous presentations and three patent applications one of them being a PCT. She has been involved in a total of 67 projects on bioengineering / biotechnology, R&D and innovation support, science and society, either as a coordinator, partner or researcher, supported by different national, international funds or industry; 21 of them being EU supported. Her work and contributions are internationally recognised by over 1600 citations out of which 54 are in textbooks.
Berrin Yanıkoglu is a Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Center of Excellence in Data Analytics (CEDA), at Sabanci University, Istanbul, Turkey. She received a double major in Computer Science and Mathematics from Bogazici University, Turkey in 1988 and her Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Dartmouth College, USA in 1993. Prof. Yanikoglu worked at Rockefeller University, Xerox Imaging Systems and IBM Almaden Research Center, before joining Sabanci University in 2000. Her research interests lie in machine learning with applications to image and language understanding, currently focusing on multimodal deception detection, biometric verification, handwriting recognition and image understanding. She received first place positions in several international signature verification and plant identification competitions, together with students and colleagues.
Devrim Özaydın received his B.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering from Middle East Technical University in 1996. After working as Planning and Quality Assurance Engineer in Depa Pharmaceuticals in 1998, Mr. Özaydın started to work as Training Specialist in Dupont Performance Coatings in 1999. Joining Kordsa as Technical Engineer in June 2000, he worked as Yarn Production Manager between the years 2005 and 2010. In 2010, he started to work as Yarn Plant Manager and completed Sabancı University Turquality Executive Development Program in 2012. Mr. Özaydın worked as Yarn Production Director between July 2011 and February 2014, and was appointed to Kordsa Brazil as Manufacturing Director. Appointed as Thai Indo Kordsa Operations Director in November 2015, Mr. Özaydın has worked as Kordsa Global Technology Director between the dates July 2018 and August 2021. Mr. Özaydın is the CEO of SU-IMC since September 2021.
Assoc. Prof. Burcu Saner Okan received her BS degree in Chemistry at Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey in 2005. Dr. Saner Okan received her MS degree in 2007 and PhD degree in 2011 in the Materials Science and Engineering program at Sabancı University (SU). Dr. Saner Okan worked in the SU Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM) for 5 years. Dr. Saner Okan is an application and research-oriented faculty member of the Material Science and Nanoengineering Program and Manufacturing Engineering Program at SU. Dr. Saner Okan is co-founder of SU spin-off Nanografen and develops automotive certified graphene from waste tire for plastic processing and become an official supplier of Renault. In addition, she is one of technical members in NATO working groups related to the military value of graphene technologies. She earned the Technology Development Foundation of Turkey (TTGV) award in 2021 and has several national and international prestigious awards and fellowships. She has been involved in more than 20 international and national projects as a coordinator, researcher and scientific advisor. She has 40 articles published in international journal articles, 6 book chapters, 2 patents, and more than 50 conference proceedings. Currently, she has been working as an academic director at Sabancı University Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Center (SU-IMC).
